United Nationsis coming to Brazil.

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is my honor to invite you to the inaugural Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) Brazil, bringing the iconic HMUN experience to Brazil as a permanent home for the first time. We will convene in São Paulo, Brazil, from Friday, March 19th to Sunday, March 21st, 2027. Born out of the tremendous and growing enthusiasm for HMUN among Brazilian students, this conference was created to give that passion the platform it deserves. My Secretariat and I cannot wait to show you all what we have in store!

My name is Sophia Mills, a senior at Harvard College studying Government and Economics, and I have the privilege of serving as your Secretary-General. Over the past four years, I have been involved with Model UN on campus, from competing as a delegate to serving on Secretariats, and it has given me some of my closest friends and shaped me into the student leader I am today. I would love nothing more than for you to leave our conference with the same sense of growth and connection.

I was born in Florida, USA to a Caribbean family, specifically Trinidad and Tobago and Dominica. I was first exposed to Portuguese as a young child at home, thanks to my father, who became proficient in the language through his work. I began studying it formally my freshman year of college, but what truly transformed my relationship with the language, and with Brazil, was my first study abroad experience in São Paulo that following summer. From there, I traveled across the country, from Rio de Janeiro to the cities of Minas Gerais, learning about the history, culture, and traditions that make Brazil such a vibrant and inspiring place. I have returned every summer since, not only for academic reasons (or the food!), but for the people. Brazil has a way of making you feel genuinely welcomed and seen, even when you arrive as a stranger still fumbling through the language. That feeling is something I want this conference to carry.

I believe that HMUN Brazil will be an exchange in the fullest sense: you will bring your perspectives, your questions, and your drive, and we will facilitate academic challenges, cultural immersions, and a community that I hope you will carry with you long after the conference.

As an extension of Harvard Model United Nations Boston, the oldest, largest, and most prestigious Model UN conference of its kind, HMUN Brazil is dedicated to upholding that same academic rigor, structure, and delegate experience. I am proud to lead a team of eleven directors and five Secretariat members, each selected from the HMUN Boston staff for their substantive excellence and commitment to delivering the best possible experience. We have designed a diverse slate of committees, offered in both English and Portuguese, that address pressing regional issues while remaining accessible to delegates of all experience levels. Our directors are trained to support first-time Model UN delegates, especially those attending their first fully English-language committee. We want everyone, regardless of English proficiency or Model UN background, to feel confident, challenged, and ready to grow their skills in collaboration, communication, and leadership.
